Editing
This website uses MediaWiki software, which enables anyone to create and edit web pages. Many tutorials are available such as Wikipedia's How to Edit a Page. The following is a quick guide to some basic techniques especially useful for this web site.
Using Headings
The main content can be organized using headings, such as:
==put heading here== ===put subheading here===
A table of contents will automatically be generated at the top if there are four or more headings.
External Links
External links are created with the use of
- Just the url if you want that to appear in the wiki
- Or single brackets (and a number will appear to click upon)
- Or single brackets with a "piped" text name after it
http://www.external_link.com or [http://www.external_link_here.com] or [http://www.external_link_here.com External Link]
Uploading and Displaying Images
Any user who has logged in may upload images. Just click on "upload file" at the very bottom of the page.
Then, to display the image on this site, write the following line with the desired image name, size, and caption:
[[image:sampleimage.jpg|left|thumb|250px|sample caption]]
Finally, you can also display a photo gallery of many images, using the <gallery></gallery> tags:
<gallery> Image:Example.jpg|Item 1 Image:Example.jpg|a link to [[Help:Contents]] Image:Example.jpg Image:Example.jpg Image:Example.jpg|''italic caption'' </gallery>
Displaying an Address
As already illustrated in this tutorial, you can also display text in a box without any formatting by using the <pre></pre> tags. This is especially useful for displaying an inmate's mailing address:
Joe Inmate J-34558 San Quintin State Prison San Quentin, CA 94964
Removal Policy
We reserve the right to remove content for the following reasons:
- spamming or posting of many commercial web sites
- any offensive, racist, or improper content
- any content that might infringe upon the privacy interests of former crime victims or anyone else
- any nudity
- any type of unlawful conduct
With that said, we hope that inmates, with the help of friends on the outside, will use this space for positive and creative expression.
